If you thought that dandruff only affects your scalp then you are absolutely wrong. It also affects your face. It can cause itching on our forehead and face as it settles down. It can occur anywhere on the face including eyebrows, ear canals, nose etc and for men beard area may also be affected. “This year’s scalp problem may be next year’s facial concern”. If you suffer from dandruff on the scalp and one day find white flakes on your eyebrows then don’t get surprised. The foremost solution to this condition is treating your scalp and making it dandruff free. Then you can follow the below mentioned steps to get rid of dandruff from other parts of the body.
Ø Make a creamy paste of a raw egg, an avocado and a teaspoon of coconut oil in a bowl. Apply the paste on the affected area and leave for a few minutes. Then wash the areas with warm water. This remedy is extremely useful as eggs and avocados contain moisturizing proteins and coconut oil adds antioxidants to the mixture.
Ø Uncooked oatmeal mixed with a few spoons of plain yogurt also do the needful. This mixture is used as a body scrub which removes dry and dead skin cells.
Ø The animals also provide solutions to our problems. Honey application on our face can also help reduce dandruff. It has to be left for a few minutes and then has to be washed off.
Ø The skin should never be left dry. Use a moisturizer daily. Your face must be moisturized even when you are taking your beauty sleep. So put a night cream before going to bed. Olive oil is a substance which will moisturize your skin and prevent it from dandruff.
Ø The affected area has to be cleansed once or twice each day with a non-soap cleanser.
Ø Ketoconazole 2% cream can be used daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
Ø 100% cocoa butter is great for skin and scars. It gives an extra glow to the face and soothes irritation.
Ø This may seem a bit weird but washing your face with shampoo which is effective against dandruff helps to cure dermatitis on face.
Ø 1% hydrocortisone cream when applied on the affected areas helps ease itching.
Ø 2% salicylic acid in mineral oil can be rubbed into the rash with a toothbrush at bed-time. This is most effective in children.
Ø Always remember never to scratch the affected area. This is the most important condition. Otherwise all your treatment fails.
In some cases seborrheic dermatitis reappears after the discontinuity of the treatment. But if something like this happens, the treatment may be restarted. The above methods have to be used cautiously when dealing with your face because they may cause thinning of the skin and further problems. But if your problem persists, it is best to consult a doctor immediately. You don’t want your face to look ugly because of this ailment. I know you don’t.
